How to Neutralise an Acid

How to Neutralise an Acid

Learners are far more likely to engage with and remember a topic if they can relate it to a real world experience. In the Neutralisation Reaction lesson below, we’ve created a real-life problem for the learners to solve. From the get-go, this will pique their interest, get discussions started and improve learner engagement. Bob has a stomach acid problem and it is the learners’ mission to help him resolve it. Take time to really describe the problem in detail and set the scene. Once you’ve given learners the materials, it’s important to give them space to explore without immediately providing answers. Stand back and enjoy the look of intrigue on their faces as they narrow the options and eventually figure it out for themselves.

Download the detailed lesson plan. The lesson plan includes suggestions for extending the topic as well as additional activities to do with your class.

Add an element of fun with our character printable. As you can see, the characters have all eaten acidic foods and are now suffering from heart-burn. Let learners choose a character, colour them in and cut them out.

To reinforce learning, we’ve created a worksheet that learners can use to record their findings and file for later study.
