Better Schools Project: A Win for Bray Intermediate

Better Schools Project: A Win for Bray Intermediate

At the risk of sounding clichéd, it’s true in life that a small intervention or act of kindness can go a long, long way. This year, Bray Intermediate was the recipient of a new kitted out science laboratory and was one of 7 schools in the area to benefit from practical science experiment training. This was made possible through the corporate social investment of ATNS

The project, a dynamic collaboration between ATNSLasec® Education, the Department of Education and the Mothibistad Science Centre saw 12 educators from the area receive excellent, practical input from specialist trainers.

The educators were also invited to bring their learners along to the nearby interactive science centre for a day of ‘Science Alive’ – a curriculum based workshop benefiting both learners and educators.
As a result of these interventions, Bray intermediate reported a 30% increase in physical science pass rate from 50% in 2015 to 82% in 2016.

Ever since we received tools, apparatus and equipment from ATNS our learners showed more interest in the subject and a better understanding of science subjects. In 2015 none of our learners managed to score above 40% - the highest mark recorded was 37%. In 2016, 55% of our learners scored above 40%, and the highest mark recorded was 65%. On behalf of Bray Intermediate staff, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to ATNS.

Keamogetse Ntoko (pictured above) took top spot with 65% for physical science and life science.

With an injection of new equipment and the on-going support from Mothibistad Science Centre, we’re positive Bray Intermediate will continue to, as Muguda says ‘shape the future of young scientists in Bray’.
