Ingenhousz Apparatus with 5 Rods
Heat conductivity apparatus with 5 rods of different metals: copper, steel, brass, lead, and aluminium.
Used with drawing pin/paper clip, vaseline, boiling water, and a timer.
Metals that are the best conductors of heat will lose the drawing pin/paper clip first.
The heat conductivity apparatus consisting of an aluminium cylinder contains 5 rods made from different metals namely copper, steel, brass, lead, and aluminium. A drawing pin/paper clip is attached to the end of each metal rod using Vaseline. Boiling water is poured into the aluminium cylinder at which point a timer is started. The time taken for the drawing pin/paper clip to drop off each rod is recorded. The results of which rod allows the drawing pin/paper clip to drop off first will conclude which metals are the best conductors of heat.
